It’s important to lean into our complexity as humans, Dr. Joy says.

“We are multifaceted, right?

It’s tough to provide support and care for others when you aren’t doing so for yourself first.

That she says, is where a strong community comes in.

But the first step is having those tough conversations, and being willing to ask for help.

“We have to really challenge this narrative that self-care is selfish,” she says.

Starting Small

It has to be acknowledged that community isn’t something that can grow overnight.
